  • Join us for an unforgettable day at the Luss Highland Gathering—an authentic and vibrant celebration of Scottish heritage held on the shores of Loch Lomond.

This tour departs from tender port in South Queensferry, where guests will board an air-conditioned minibus for direct transport to the Gathering. As this excursion departs from the tender dock, it is essential that all cruise guests ensure they are on dry land by the scheduled start time. Unfortunately, late arrivals cannot be accommodated.

The destination is the beautiful conservation village of Luss, where the Highland Gathering has been held since 1875 in the shadow of Ben Lomond. Set against the spectacular backdrop of the loch and surrounding hills, the event offers a truly immersive cultural experience.

Upon arrival, you'll be welcomed by the stirring sound of pipes and drums and given free time—approximately three and three-quarter hours—to explore the event at your own pace. Watch the caber toss, hammer throw, and other heavyweight contests; take in the grace of Highland dancing competitions; enjoy lively footraces and tug o’ war events; and browse a selection of local food stalls, artisan vendors, and clan heritage displays. Your entry ticket is included in the excursion price.

As with all outdoor events in Scotland, the weather can be unpredictable, so it’s important to come prepared. You may experience warm sunshine, cool breezes, or the occasional rain shower—all in the same day! A waterproof layer and comfortable, sturdy footwear are recommended, as the Games take place on a grassy field with no paved pathways. While the ground is relatively flat, those using wheelchairs or mobility scooters should be aware that conditions can vary, particularly if there has been wet weather in the days leading up to the event.

After soaking up the energy and tradition of this classic Highland gathering, we’ll return you to South Queensferry in good time to meet your tender back to the ship.

  • For any shore excursion in Scotland, preparation is key to enjoying your adventure comfortably. Our weather is famously changeable, so checking the forecast and dressing in layers is essential:

    • Light base layer

    • Sweater or fleece

    • Waterproof jacket

Comfortable shoes are also a must, as many destinations feature cobbled streets, rugged trails, or castle grounds that require footwear capable of handling different types of uneven surface.

While many places accept cards, having a bit of cash on hand can be helpful.

A small backpack is useful for carrying essentials like snacks, extra clothing, and any souvenirs you may pick up along the way.

Finally, don’t forget to bring a camera or smartphone to capture all those sights on your excursion with us!
