  • Your adventure begins as we depart Greenock Cruise Terminal, heading into the heart of the West Highlands. Our first stop is Tarbet, Loch Lomond, where you'll enjoy a short comfort break and the opportunity to take in the breathtaking views of this famous loch. This peaceful spot is the perfect place to stretch your legs and snap a few photos before we continue our journey.

We’ll then travel through dramatic Highland landscapes to the Rest and Be Thankful, one of Scotland’s most scenic viewpoints. Here, you can take in sweeping views of rugged hills and glens, a reminder of the country’s untamed beauty, before we make our way to Inveraray.

Arriving in Inveraray, we head straight to the Inveraray Highland Games, set within the spectacular grounds of Inveraray Castle, the ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll. The day begins with the official pipe band parade, a grand procession traditionally led by His Grace, the Duke of Argyll and his family, along with members of Clan Campbell. The rousing sound of marching pipes and drums signals the start of an unforgettable day celebrating Highland heritage.

Your entry ticket is included, giving you access to a full day of traditional events and festivities. Experience the thrill of hammer throwing, shot put and the World Caber Tossing Championships as one of the day’s highlights. Alongside these classic Highland competitions, enjoy Highland dancing performances and solo piping contests, or explore the many stalls showcasing Scottish crafts, food, and refreshments.

You’ll also have the option to enjoy free time in Inveraray itself. Take a stroll through this picturesque lochside town, see the historic Inveraray Jail, or simply relax by Loch Fyne and soak up the atmosphere.

As the games draw to a close, we begin our return journey with a scenic drive to Hunters Quay, where we’ll board the ferry for a 20-minute sail across the River Clyde to Gourock. With coastal views of the Clyde estuary, this peaceful journey is the perfect way to round off your Highland Games experience before returning to the cruise terminal.

  • For any shore excursion in Scotland, preparation is key to enjoying your adventure comfortably. Our weather is famously changeable, so checking the forecast and dressing in layers is essential:

    • Light base layer

    • Sweater or fleece

    • Waterproof jacket

Comfortable shoes are also a must, as many destinations feature cobbled streets, rugged trails, or castle grounds that require footwear capable of handling different types of uneven surface.

While many places accept cards, having a bit of cash on hand can be helpful.

A small backpack is useful for carrying essentials like snacks, extra clothing, and any souvenirs you may pick up along the way.

Finally, don’t forget to bring a camera or smartphone to capture all those sights on your excursion with us!
